Where the streets have no name

The song “Where the streets have no name” by U2 is written by Bono after his visit to Managua, a city in Nicaragua where the streets actually don’t  have names. An earthquake in 1972 destroyed most of the street signes. Nowadays, the inhabitants locate adresses in the city based on references that no longer exist, that live only in their memory.

Gallo más Gallo, the country’s largest electronics store decided to help, and give the streets their names back. The signs contain names of places that have changed over time, like former supermarket La Vicky and the place where the largest tree in Managua once stood. Fifty new signs were placed in the city, and made sure that the city’s history will never be forgotten.
